HireRight NPDB Check
Identify a history of unprofessional behavior, malpractice payments or incompetency of a physician, dentist, or other health care professional using the HireRight National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) Check. Searching the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) databases for adverse actions reported against health care professionals including licensure, clinical privileges, professional society membership and other sanctions can help health care organizations, such as hospitals, meet certain regulatory requirements and help ensure patient safety.
The NPDB is a national repository that compiles and shares information about the competence and conduct of health care professionals. This health care sanction check is an important supplement to a comprehensive and careful review of a practitioner’s professional credentials. It is considered a flagging or ‘tips’ system, so any record found is intended to result in further inquiry using other appropriate methods before considering adverse actions.
Hospitals must perform a NPDB Check when a practitioner applies for privileges, every two years on practitioners on staff or holding privileges, and at other times. Failure to perform necessary NPBD Checks on a practitioner may give a plaintiff or their attorney access to the NPDB information on that practitioner for use in litigation.
Organizations performing the NPDB check should also perform the HireRight Health Care Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB) Check.
Common NPDB Check Uses:
- Reveal risks posed by applicants
- Maintain compliance with government regulations
- Mitigate risk of litigation by performing essential industry searches
